“A One Night Stand” by Author Chinyere M Udeh

Belladonna, was the beauty standard young lady, every man’s dream of a wife material, a lady to take home to mama, showcase to friends, and family. A young lady that every little girl wants to be like when they grow up. But underneath her surface, where most people don’t see, other than her close friend Cartney, lies a young lady with a burning desire and obsession for going crazy and doing something stupid before her wedding day with her high school sweetheart Gabriel. Elegance, acknowledgment, and admiration by others, together with the fear of disappointing those that look up to her, she failed to answer the call of her shadow self until the night before her wedding.

On the night before her wedding day, Belladonna drove alone, leaving her bestie behind, into an adult private clubhouse where she sat comfortably and confidently waiting and looking for the perfect guy to unleash her long-longing fantasy of a “one night stand” with. Soon her wish was granted when a tall, handsome, attractive, athletic man walked inside the club and began looking around.

It wasn’t long before their eyes locked on each other, and he began heading in her direction. Soon he made his way to her and introduced himself as Moses; in return, she said, “I’m Star.” Handshakes were exchanged, and soon lust began creeping into their minds. “Would you like to leave this place?” Star asked. “I will go and be wherever you want me to be, woman of my dream,” Moses answered without a blink of eye contact. They both left the clubhouse only to find themselves in a nearby motel named “After Hours Freak On.”

With passionate kissing, touching, and lovemaking, their mood was set for all night long. Early morning came, and Belladonna rushed out of the motel building like Mary Magdalene, got inside her car, and left. She arrived at her wedding hotel venue a few minutes before everyone began waking up. Upon getting to her room, her bestie was already waiting for her to come in and spill the tea. “Spill the tea, dirty whore,” she said with a smiley face, and continued, “Don’t even lie to me because I was following you all night long.” “Bastard” she called her with a friendly tone. “Did it happen? Like I knew it did,” Cartney asked with a sure facial expression. “Yep, it did,” she self-condemned herself, “I’m such a whore.” “Girl, I’ve been there, done that, and got the t-shirt,” her bestie replied, giving her a sense of encouragement and guilty freedom. Soon they began getting ready for her wedding and acted as if last night never happened.

She soon began walking down the aisle side by side with her maternal uncle Joe, not knowing what awaited her at the altar. Soon she arrived at the altar only to discover that her soon-to-be husband’s best man was the same man she had a one-night stand with, and his first cousin. Would he say something to him? How do I explain it to him? Can I keep this secret and take it to my grave, or should I say something now and save everyone from the unforeseen events ahead of us? These were the questions running through her mind as she exchanged vows with her high school sweetheart Gabriel.
